The European Commission presented an action plan to boost innovation design.

Design plays a key role as an intangible asset for innovative companies . According to European Commission data , 21% of European companies use design as a strategic element to foster innovation , and amounts to 36,000 million euros annual turnover of European design industry . Many studies show that companies that invest strategically in design tend to be more profitable and grow faster. Although for years that Europe recognizes design as one of its main assets , the EC makes it clear that is not yet fully exploited its potential to enhance the competitiveness of EU regions and their companies.

In this context , last Thursday the European Commission in Brussels on ' Action Plan for Design - Driven Innovation' , a collection of actions that aim to promote the inclusion of design in innovation policy to boost growth and create employment in the European, national and regional levels.

Digital tools are already widespread and it could be said that all organizations working in social innovation projects the use of one form or another. But the concept of Digital Social Innovation involves specific characteristics. According to British innovation agency Nesta, these are projects that are focused from grassroots communities, using digital tools in a disruptive manner to achieve a positive social impact and create a multiplier effect through network collaboration.
Under these provisions, was introduced on September 16 the new Social Innovation Digital European network, aimed to map and create connections between organizations and groups that perform digital social innovation projects. The intention is also to better understand the potential of digital technologies in this field to develop recommendations to European and regional policy makers.

The Department of Environment and Regional Policy of the Basque Government allocated this year to 1.3 million grant projects carried out by companies or associations of companies in the Basque Autonomous Community performing investments for environmental protection atmosphere.
